Abhaya Kshetram is a rehabilitation home for mentally challenged, abandoned, deaf and dumb individuals which was founded by Dr.S.A. Thasleem ten years back. It now hosts 154 individuals of all ages. These individuals are housed in three different houses according to their age and severity of the illness. The inmates make bags, purses, stitches designs and greeting cards according to their skills.
CORPORitual workshop was conducted to a more receptive 40 individuals who were mostly men and also included three caregivers who were physically challenged .One of the very old individual in the Home broke down saying something unclear about his mother and started to cry when the workshop began with the term Compassion. How compassion knows no barriers and how we can connect with the others around us with the same essence was discussed introducing the CVOL-3 “Practice Compassion”. This was followed by how unique each individual is , was discussed through CVOL-2 “Manifest your Purpose of Existence”. Then the participants were made to do a small exercise on how to meet ourselves in silence when one of the participants started to cry loudly, said that he wants to go back home and live with his family. He said that he would practice CVOL-I “Meet Yoursel fin Silence” daily as it brought him peace .Following this how we carry the burden from the past and forget to live in the present was discussed explaining the CVOL-4 “Forgive and Bury the Past”. The workshop was concluded by thanking Soulbath Peace Foundation and the Founder Sri Raj Bhowmik.
The uniqueness in every individual irrespective of their physical and mental disabilities is what I have seen and the work they are doing is really worth applause. The cards, paintings and other things they are doing are good. Thank you Soulbath Peace Foundation for the opportunity .
